Transrapid

The contract with China represented the breakthrough for Transrapid maglev technology. Around 30 km long, the Transrapid line was completed at the beginning of 2003 and connects the Pudong International Airport with the financial center of Shanghai. The Transrapid began commercial operation at the beginning of 2004 and travels the 30 kilometer stretch every 10 minutes, with an operating speed of 430 km/h, in a little more than seven minutes.

A central part in this project is being played by Transrapid GmbH. It enjoys an exclusive market position in the key components for the Transrapid, such as the vehicle substructures, the main and guide magnets, the sensors, the carriage structures, the stator packages, the motor windings, and the guideway switches. The production site is Kassel, Germany. In Munich, the company is mainly concerned with engineering design and planning.
