TECHSHOWS 2008
Success in the land of the rising sun

Success | “Full house” at the TechShows in Japan. Interest | The ThyssenKrupp exhibits came under close scrutiny from the Japanese experts.

Anyone seeking to intensify relations with Japanese OEMs over the long term has to go to Japan. This is where all the key decisions are made - including those concerning the Japanese producers’ foreign locations. At the end of May ThyssenKrupp Technologies and ThyssenKrupp Steel presented their second series of one-day TechShows at Nissan and Toyota - impressing the Japanese decision-makers and technical experts alike.

Around 300 employees from each of the Japanese
companies took the opportunity to meet the ThyssenKrupp experts face to face. Attention focused mainly on innovations in assembled camshafts, weight-optimized crankshafts and castings, electrical steering systems, variable chassis solutions and modular production equipment. High-ranking guests including Shunichi Toyomasu, Advanced Technology Development Group, Corporate Vice President Nissan Motor Corporation, Kyoji Sasazu, Executive Vice President Purchasing, Member of the Board Toyota Motor Corporation and Shinzo Kobuki, Senior Managing Director, Chief Power Train Development Officer and Member of the Board of Toyota Motor Corporation, were keen to see for themselves what ThyssenKrupp has to offer. Visitors flocked not just to view the 50+ exhibits but also to attend the nine specialist presentations.

The JSAE Annual Spring Congress (JSAE = Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan) is the largest auto congress in Asia. It is organized in conjunction with a trade show for auto manufacturers and their suppliers. Here, too, the ThyssenKrupp companies impressed visitors with their new safety-optimized, lightweight and fuel-saving components and materials.

The presentations in the land of the rising sun were a resounding success for both sides and numerous new contacts were made. There is not long to wait until the next TechShow in Japan: In October ThyssenKrupp’s automotive suppliers will visit Honda.
