MARGA PLANNING COMPETITION 2008
Uhde secures second place in finals at Schloss Gracht

Dedicated | The team from Uhde GmbH came second in the Marga finals at Schloss Gracht (from left: Dr. Christoph Noeres, Dr. Joachim Rüther, Karsten Hunger, Dr. Steffen Werth, Christian Stöhr).

MARGA is a general management simulation game held twice a year which offers participants the opportunity to develop their vocational skills. The competition is aimed at helping junior executives and high potentials gain a better understanding of the workings of global markets. Last year’s autumn competition began in October 2007 and after four rounds the live finals were held at Schloss Gracht in Erftstadt in April 2008.

A total of 76 teams competed against each other on an
e-learning platform. Participants from four Technologies companies were joined by contestants from companies such as Lanxess, Deutsche Bahn, Telekom, Robert Bosch and Sanofi-Aventis. The teams each run their own company which competes directly with the companies of three other teams. In various decision-making rounds, the participants learn to compete in the free market in a virtual world. They are required to make decisions for a global company in the areas of marketing, product development, personnel structure and financial instruments.

“We particularly liked the combination of business know-how, strategic thinking, teamwork and social competencies the game teaches,” said team spokesman Dr. Steffen Werth from Uhde. In a close-fought final against the Volkswagen team, his team achieved second place.
