Order for two container ships

TKMS Blohm + Voss Nordseewerke has received an order to build two further 3,400 TEU container ships. The acronym "TEU” stands for "twenty-foot equivalent units” and is used to denote cargo capacity. Both ships are to be built at the Emden shipyard and are scheduled for delivery in 2010 and 2011. This contract takes to eight the number of ships from the new 3,400 TEU series the company has been commissioned to build. The first ship in the series was launched on May 9, 2008. These very compact container ships are built to an innovative design offering maximum capacity, maximum velocity and minimum fuel consumption.
